I can say without doubt that a ZX12r shock will fit a 2nd gen Zed - have just done install. 2 slight hiccups, 1 was top bolt was a ******* to get in and through new shock but eventually it did go, and 2 ZX12 dog bones need to be loosened then attached and then retightened. Maso

I found out that the clutch lever is the same from 2003 to 2012 but the brake lever changed in 2007.

If you want a brake lever you can use one from a 2007-2012 ZX10.

When I swapped out 2007 ZX6R forks & brakes on my '03 Z1000; I had to change the master cylinder. I used a unit from a '07 Z1000, because they switched to Radial mount brakes that year. I also used the Z1000 master because that unit has the mirror stalk on it opposed to the Ninja MC. I have black OEM levers, but Z1000's are silver, so I am using a zx6r brake lever.
I NEED a new clutch lever... Seems like ever since I've owned this bike; that lever has so much slop in it. Good to know that it doesn't matter what year for a decent black lever.
I recently added a '06 zx6r rear shock. Finally, my rear is up to speed with the Ninja forks. There is a slight mm offset if you just swap shocks, but I got my shock with all the linkage, and that helped. I had to carry over one of the lower mounting bolts, because the Ninja bolt was very long, but my original bolt worked great. I think it sits @ 5mm lower, but that ain't much.
My bike is SO much more stable now; leaned over or in a straight line.
With 65k on the clock; it was time for suspension maintenance.
Oh yeah, and since I was trying to rid of all the gold... I swapped a rear wave rotor off a 650 Ninja to match the front wave rotors, and it fit perfectly under the black zx10r rear caliper.

The swingarm on the 03-06 Z1000 looks the same as the 03/04 ZX6R. Can anyone confirm this? Can anybody measure the portion where the axle runs through, please? I have my stock swingarm, axle, and rear wheel from an 00-02 ZX6R/05-08 ZZR and I'm curious if I can use the axle and rear wheel on a Z swingarm.

I'm quoting myself because I found my answer. I bought a first gen Z1000 swing arm for my build. The Z1000 swing arm is identical, at the rear axle, as the 05-08 ZZR 600 (same as the 00-02 ZX6R). So I now have my ZZR 600 rear wheel/spacers/caliper mount/axle adjusters/axle/everything mounted to the Z swing arm. Quite a money saver, BUT the 600 wheel is 5.5" wide instead of 6" wide like the Z wheel. No biggie, I already had the rear wheel amd all, so that's a lot less stuff I gotta buy to get this thing on the road. (that's a used Shinko 190/50/17 for mock up--Shinko's have a flatter profile to them than other brands, making them look wider).

Also, the hugger/chain guard from the 03/04 636 is the same as the 03-06 Z1000. Just in case anyone needs a replacement. I hope this info benefits someone.

HOOLIGAN, good post on ya mods!!!!!
Parts needed for a 636r conversion -
2005/6 forks, calipers, rear shock, master cylinder( and yes they work 10 fold over standard!!!!!!!!!) 2002 636 wheel spacers, new brake lines(100mm longer 636 ones)

Standard gen 1 triples were used with 2006 636r forks( they need to slide through 28 mm) for a perfect ride.
Rear shock goes in without taken any other part off your bike except right side exhaust after headers(if you have standard headers) then take 2mm off the lower bolt spacer so the shock will fit into z1000 linkage.
2002 spacers are made for the fit of the front wheel.
NOTHING ELSE NEEDS TO BE DONE
Merry bloody Xmas and it you want a happy new year and a bike that flogs most late models..... do this mod!!!!!:eek:ccasion::2cents::eek:ccasion::2cents:

Does anyone know if the 2014 model has compatible levers with the 2007-2013 range?
