The other day I was either going from 4 to 5 or 5 to 6 and I didn't get it all the way in and it acted neutral for about half a second then went into the lower of the two gears. No clanking or harsh noise though. My old bike was bad about not going into gear without a heavy shift so i kinda do it without thinking. That was the only time I've had it do anything weird. Never slipped out of second or anything like that. My zr7 will slip out of second into neutral easy if i don't really kick it.

 

I have had my bike do this from time to time. It can happen going from any gear to any other gear. I find it is most common when I shift lazily. I never have had it pop out of a gear, but you have to firmly shift into the gears.

 

Hi Triplethreat. I have a '12 z1000ABS . At different times I have had the same hideous thing going from 5th to 6th. A false neutral with rattling gears...horrible. I have had it more and more recently at 4000kms and over. I read a few posts on this forum the other day and what i am doing now all the time is doing a quick positive shift with about half clutch. There has been no problem so far. The bike clearly likes to be ridden with a sense of urgency. The bonus here i guess is if you shift quickly you don't get the massive engine braking effect which contradicts changing up a gear in the first place. I am going to mention it at my 6000km service but i know there will be nothing to adjust. Maybe the engine oil has a slight bearing on things. I tend to doubt it. I have really looked after my bike. It has not been hammered. At nearly 5000kms now it is really pretty loose and feels very good.

 

Ok so I'm not the only one yea I guess I would say it happens when I shift lazy. Ill just have to make sure I do better shifts

 

same here if i dont give it enough pressure when shifting from 5th to 6th. its like it doesnt go into gear fully.

Ditto. T happens to me if I don't shift with a sense of urgency. Not that I have to drive aggressively, just shift that way. Problem for me is that when I shift aggressively I tend to drive that way. Funny how that works out.

 

:dontknow: Yeah ..... a bit of a contradiction in terms. I have pretty much mastered the quick shift without caning it. It works really well. I blip the throttle on downshifts that need it. The bike is really smooth now. It loves my new riding style. I never want to hear that gear mincing sound again. The bike will have a memory of how you ride it too i think. You know when you give some clown a ride of your bike that can't ride. You get it back and it feels like **** until you ride it for a while yourself......:screwy:. The bike always runs a bit nicer when you wash it.......:lol:.

 

i get this a fair bit also but when im riding hard. i have to try n remember if i changed gear hard enough or not when it happens but im so focused on riding hard i never remember

 

For the most part, I haven't had any real problems with shifting with my Z. The only time that I did is when I switched from the Mobile 1 synthetic to Rotella-T synthetic. Nothing but 'clunk' and almost near impossible to find neutral. I'm back to Mobile 1 and shifting is better. Much better.

 

Some riders have had mechanical issues with 4th gear not related to light shifting.

This is just 3 threads of many I found.

Better to have all your info lined up before asking the mechanic.

Hello I live in Norway Do someone have a answer way kawasaki don`t deliver quikshifter (up and down) on new Z1000 bikes? i will wait and buy the new 2020 Model when available. Due to the new fee regulations Norway that make the Z1000 1300- 2000 Euro cheaper Are quikshifter bad for gearbox?
