Wind speeds?

I have never had the sensation of wanting to come off the bike at speed, I think all those who complain about wind have always had a fairing or never went quicker than 55mph:screwy: To date fastest run on old school is 136 mph on a hopped of 1979 shaft 1000, and 137 indicated on my new 2012 Z1000 with plenty of tack to spare!

:+1: im a big guy. Tucking is uncomfortable. I only tuck if i get caught in painful rain. Ive had my bike up to 152 indicated. Id say half tuck. Only because the spoiler on my helmet was pushing my head down. I have never thought oh$hit i might fall off the back. Sure its not smooth like a fullfaired bike but thats what makes fun. I have yet to run wfo till she stopped pulling. Will a first gen pull redline in 6th?

it will but it takes a while in 6th with stock gearing.

I had 180+ (vibration was too bad to see accurately at that speed) on my old TL1000S, I had spent and fortune on all the usual power gain mods + a whole lot of engine internals, but the reality is I doubt it was much more than 165mph. My buddy on his gixxer 1000 said he had 175 on his clock and I was still pulling away but at high speed bike speedo's are so inaccurate.

I haven't had enough "good" road to open it up all the way. Seen 155, and that is it for now..... I have to be good for now (6mos) got court supervision on my wheelie ticket.

Since today was a good day I decided to have a little fun on the back roads surrounded by corn fields. I generally never drive fast and mainly do lots of hard acceleration.. but today I let her rip. Got to 135..and she still wanted to go faster!

wholey **** im lagging behind...

have hit about 110 mph on my 03 Z. (180-190 kph)

wasnt too squirly at all, but the road was beginning to turn sharp lol

im wondering what kind of roads you guys have where you are, and where the cops are!?

toronto canada is brutal, they will pull you over for doin 10 over. Its a mad cash crop here for the gubermint

but at anything over 140 kph, they wont bother trying to catch you...so i ve heard

#45 ·
You will get there, i just figured id let her rip for once.
The roads down here in south jersey are practically all back roads with farm lands. Not enough cops in the area to monitor all the back roads so they have to stay on the main highways. And its all surrounded by corn stalks which is pretty nice.
Even in DE, cops won't get to many back road places, they generally are always around the cities. 2012z1000 knows all about that

im from massachusetts. usually speed on 95(a four lane highway that goes from maine to florida.) but last week a friend of mine that has an 07 z1 took a ride up north togoto laconia and we took 93. didnt speed much on the way up. but on the way back down we found alot of open road and were goin good. we were probably cruising 125 and i look up at a bridge, two white unmarked impalas were on top of the bridge gunning people. my friend did not see them so i said **** it and kept twisting. not even five mins down a highway there was a statey sitting on a service road. we went by so fast didnt have time to let off. long story short they never came after us. idk if it was our lucky day. or they didnt think they had a chance against z1ks . or they didnt want to endanger our lives anymore then we already were.:dontknow:. but anyways it was a hell of a ride i touched over 150 on my first gen. as well did my friend on his 07. after seeing that cop for about all of 1 second i had to check my self. not my bike my pants haha:eek:ccasion:

yeah s jerz is wide open farm roads.. just gotta watch out for those nj state troopers on the turnpike they hide good in the trees loL! even here in DE tho we have a small stretch of 95 that runs through the state and i usually open it up beetween rt1 and 495 into pa.. hit 132 today in 5th and i honestly wasnt even trying.. just so happened to feel a bit more wind pressure and looked down and was like hmmm 130's.. nice loL!

495 is an awesome stretch..but after hearing lots of state police hiding around there I tend to be more conservative. Rt 9 is prob one of my fav in de

I got nabbed at 101mph in a 65mph zone today. He wasn't hiding, I overtook him and he hit the radar before I saw him. That's what I get for getting pissed at the lady merging onto the freeway, dropped her phone and swerved a lane looking for her phone. I got pissed and took off.

$490 ticket he dropped down to $165 (85 in a 65mph). I'll have to make an appearance next Thurs night to try and maintain my clean record of 6 years!

that sux docnucca. lucky they didnt take your license on the spot or haul u off to jail. last summer i got caught doing 98 in a 65 coming back from gatlinburg tenn. on I-40. the cop was cool about it until my wife started running her mouth & i almost got took to jail. had to tell her to shut up. u can imagine how that went over later. anyways ended up costing me $275.

yeah i knew a guy that got caught doing 100 in a 55 , they took his car, license and right to jail on the spot! he was out a few hrs later but cost him quite a bit in the long run. think if you get hit doing 30 over its automatic take your license but depends on the cop and mood hes in i guess..

speeding in a car is different then i bike. if u speed in a car they can get u with endangering lives or even attempted murder. cause ur in a 3000lb piece of metal u could kill anything easily. but on our bikes we can only hurt ourselves. in my experiences cops are more about cars speeding not bikes. hopefully my luck stays good. i know last week it was when i went by that statey at 130....:dontknow:

Before I bought the bike from my buddy, he let me take it out for a spin and our boss rolled up in his Audi. We went head to head for a while (not sure if he was just checking to see how I was holding on or what) but got the speedo to read at 165.

Then after I bought it, I took my baby's momma out and she wanted to go fast.....so I found a 10 mile straight shot on fresh tar. With both of us on it I was able to get the speedo to read 155. We held it there for a while and it was slowly creeping up but deceided to bring it back down and count our luck!

Every once in a while on my way to work or home I'll bring it to about 135 on the speedo. It gets there plenty fast and have no desire to push it higher any more..... must be getting older but not wiser.......lol.

mine will jump up to 145 mph by the speedo real quick. seems like it takes forever to get from 145 to 160. will probably be dropping a tooth on the crank sprocket soon. will lose 9 mph on top end but it would get there alot quicker.

2007 from downunder

I hit 248km/h (thats close enough to 155mph) last month on main straight at Eastern Creek Raceway - my first track day ever.

Man that first corner comes up fast at that speed - and if your gonads are large enough you tip it in at that speed or faster !!!

At that speed I was being buffered around a fair bit - but next time I promise to better that.

Maso

PS: Best top speed ever was a indicated 306km/h on my GSXR750... just had to hit 300 well, umm to say I'd done it I suppose.

I hit 197km/h on Monday during a ride. It was windy as heck, and like eosdigital, I was getting buffetted around too much for my comfort. Gets there quick though!!

where out here on the road are u going to go faster than 150 or 160 mph anyway? my buddies gsxr will do 190 + mph by the speedo, which is probably 170 mph or so. hes only run it up that fast once on the interstate late at night. i will hit 120 to 140 mph by the speedo a couple times a week. really dont have any need to go any faster than that.

Open road to Vegas last weekend and it stopped at 145-144 speedo and I thought that was it for the ECU. Coming back I hit a spot of 147 and then backed out of it. I never gave it time to see if it would climb higher.

Hit 150mph in my car 1 1/2 years ago in the same spot.
