2.8 sounds right. Man when you look at the pick up comparison to most inport racing cars with 6 secons or so as the norm it makes me want to race more of those guys when we meet at a light... still probably not the safest thing to attempt anyway.

The 2010 Z1000 is a bit slower than the 03-06 Z1000. The 0-60 time for the current Z1000 is 3 secs flat. Still not too bad. Even better if you consider how better the bike handles and responds compared to the older models.

for the kind of riding i do i think my 04 is just as good as the 2010.
will my 04 stop as good under racing conditions as the new ZED prolly not
will my 04 do as good a lap time on a race track, maybe not. will my 04 keep up with a 2010 in the canyon YES. the gains are not that great. with very little prep i got the handling set right.

That part about the canyon is debatable. To an experienced rider there's no difference between a race track and a canyon run. To an inexperienced rider then that's a different story.

If this does go down. Please buy or borrow a GoPro HD. I would love to watch this on video. :)

What's the time for this on a stock Z1000?
Interesting motorcycle Performance data HERE (pdf file) According to this MCN chart
2010 0-60mph is 3.06 sec
2007 0-60mph is 3.36 sec
2011 Ninja 1K is 2.91 sec

Given the variables, the only real conclusion you can draw from the above data is that these three bikes are very similar in 0-60 times. Different riders, track conditions etc. easily account for the differences in times.

I think it's pretty cool how MCN keeps this index updated. To bad the bikes are tested on different days, different riders, even different magazines (from what I can tell), but it can still give you a ballpark idea of a particular bikes performance.
