Alright so im about to do my first valve adjustment with the help of a buddy... im also gonna change the plugs... what else can i do while im in there for mods and such my buddy mentioned v stacks and some other stuff no idea but any ideas while im in there?

v stacks are something you can do at any time since it's just a matter of putting them inside the airbox. I've looked for them and haven't found any specifically for the Z though. You can index your plugs, that will give you a little something. If you want to get really into it you could pull the head off while you're in there and replace the head gasket with a thinner one or polish and port it.

Honestly, I just did my valves and I did none of those things besides the plugs and indexing. It's all too involved for the gains you'll get.

Take your time and write everything down. I actually had a motorcycle mechanic I know do most of the work because I hadn't done it before, didn't have the required tools and didn't have the time. Ended up replacing 7 of the exhaust shims, they were all tight.

dang im also debating the dealership that quoted me at 300... so we will see but thanks for the input man... how many miles were on your bike and how many were out of sync

$300 isn't bad. Most places will charge you around $250, but there's something to be said for the peace of mind that comes with going to a dealer. 7 of mine were out of spec at 29k. I bought the bike with 21k on it last spring and the guy hadn't done the service so I waited till the winter and did it.

The plugs are iridium, no need to replace them till 100,000 manufacture of plugs say so if they arent fould, burnt, or pretty enough for you, your just wasting time and money

Hey barry thanks for the heads up.... so if anyone is on custom fighters forum aswell saber63 is coming over to help me out and we are gonna do this saturday... i think im going to buy the plugs incase... due to the valves needing adjustment possible affecting the spark plugs and stuff.... but if not ill definitly return em... thanks for the heads up tho.
