Alright guys, got my z1000 last night and I've been inspecting everything now that its in my garage. One thing that caught my eye is under the seat, next to the ecu there's a female plug with a few wires coming from it, and the male side is nowhere to be found? Is this an accessory hookup? I can get a pic up if need be so you can see what I'm talking about. Also, the seat doesn't lock anyhow? From what I can tell its just a forward tab and 2 plastic locator pins to keep it from moving around?

Thanks for the help, this is the first of I'm sure many questions with this thing. Back from a 3-4 year hiatus from riding so I'm a little rusty:lol:

Yes and the seat is held on with the front tab and two rear allen head bolts.
Hmm...I can take the seat on and off without any tools. Prop it up in the back and slide it up and out. Doesn't feel right, nor does it sound right now that you say there's supposed to be allen bolts holding it in place.

This is under the "drivers" seat right next to the ecu, mounted on the side of the frame facing down. Ill snap a pic today so I can make it easier for you all to figure out. I'm sure its nothing I need to worry about, I'm just curious. Like I said I'm still learning the in's and out's of this bike. FWIW, does anybody know of a downloadable PDF of a service manual for 03-06's?

Heres a pic of the plug(just left of the negative terminal) and what I'm talking about for the seat. It doesn't lock or secure in place, just seeing if that is normal?

on the 2010 and up the seat is held down with 2 allen head bolts, I think everyone assumed you bought a new bike. I'm not familiar with previous models but it looks to me like other sport bikes that the rear seat locking in keeps the front from sliding backwards, so the rear seat retains the front? anyone with a first gen will be able to tell for sure.

AP Guy - you are missing a bracket and a single bolt for the seat...

On the first gen, there is a bracket that has two tabs on it - the tabs slide into the seat, and then then bolt holds the bracket and locks the seat in place. If you can just pick your seat up and slide it backwards without removing the passenger seat, then thats what you are missing - you would have to remove the passenger seat to see where the front seat bolts into the subframe.

I would say you are missing part numbers 32046A (bracket) and 130A (bolt)

Check it here:

32046-1530 is the full kawasaki part number for the bracket. About $19
130BB0620 full part number for bolt about $0.23

Do you have factory stock blinkers on the back? If so the wire may just be an 12v accessory lead.
