Tech (speedometer)

259 Views 6 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Z1000Biker
Hi fellas,
I have a question about the speedometer, as ever other bike in the market has more thec than my z1000.
Is it possible switching the speedometer form a z900 or a ninja to a z1000?
I would love to have some othe thec this bikes offer in my, i thinking switching but i still love the way my z1000 looks!
Thank you all!

What “tech” are you looking for? If the bike doesn’t have something for the dash to plug into an operate it’s pointless. Like, power modes for example, just swapping a dash won’t change your ecu. Or a gear indicator, the hook up for a regular indicator isn’t there. The Z1000’s whole appeal is the lack of unnecessary tech, so I say sell me your bike and by a new z900. You can put a whole new ecu in there, wire it all up, and hook it up to a new fancy dash but you won’t get much more beyond asthetics. There’s no wheel speed sensors to run track style traction control. You could hook a quick shifter up to it, but you can do that without a new dash. All in all, and I’m not trying to be a dick, you’ve probably not got the right bike for what you currently want

This is why I love mine, and am thinking about keeping and riding it forever on end.

The first thing I did when helping a new rider was to cover the instruments with painters tape. This let them learn ,and feel rather than have an electronic device tell them. Not a one of them had trouble doing this. The idea here was to keep them focused on not hitting cars rather than looking at pretty screens and displays.

I believe at this point, all they are doing is throwing automobile tech at these bikes and seeing what sticks.

I saw where the newest h2sx-se had radar cruise control that applies the brakes if you were to approach a car and get too close. Imagine riding and being in the mindset that would allow you to do this and not notice?

They have this on the New Multistrada V4 as well, and it's part of how the cruise control system operates. I agree that its kind of silly but you have to admit it is pretty cool that they can stuff all of that tech into a bike. But when working on one, once you pull the tank off its a huge mess of abs, radar, and other modules that fill the entire under tray above the cylinders. Definitely a PITA if you ask me.
Things change so fast when you’re riding and all it takes is one car changing lanes or coming out of a lot. On top of that I totally agree with rcannon you want your head up as much as possible whether ripping a canyon or contending with traffic. All of that stuff breaks your focus and that’s the number one thing no matter the task on a bike. Also, a good rider should be able to ride and judge speed without looking down at the dash (at least in a rough manner) and it’s an old and often still used basic learning tool for track riding to cover the speedo.

I realize we are all kind of dumping on your post and sorry about that. They sell cheap aftermarket dashes and some of the nice ones have a plug and play system that’ll spruce up the look. If you wanted a gps lap timer and to be able to select maps on an aftermarket ecu something like this will cost you a pretty penny. Think 1200 entry level but they’re nice and you can really set them up, popular for race bikes and suchhttps://www.starlane.com/en/products/davinci-digital-dashboard-motorsport/davinci-II-S-X-Series
