...and I am almost embarassed to be having to ask this. But here goes:

How the hell do you install bar end mirrors on the 2010 Z1000? I got my CRG's last night, was all stoked, got home and took off the bar end weights - only to find that the bar end is solid. The mirror has a piece on it that is supposed to slide into the bar and expand as you turn the nut, locking the mirror into the bar end.

Am I expected to cut the end off the bars to fit the bar end mirror? Then what? What if you decide to go back to stock - you cant ever reinstall the original bar end weights since you cut off the mounting point. So, WTF?!?!?!

I just tired of the ugly original mirrors, and cant afford $300+ for a nice set of Rizoma's (which is what I really want...) But now I have a $90 mirror that is useless...

HELP!

Yes, you need to cut the end off. I would just get some Renthal bars and use those so you don't wreck your stock ones. $60 and you'll get your choice of color and height, along with a better feel because the bar is better made. I've got Renthal ultra lows on mine and the vibes are the same or less WITHOUT the huge weights that were on the stock bars. Now I can put on my Rizoma knockoff bar end mirrors and not worry about not having the weights.

Yes cut them off, and I have heard of guys filling the bars with BB's to cut back vibrations. I have not tried it and do not know if it is true or not.

WAIT!! Don't cut. I have an alternative. Instead of using the chitty mounts that you bought from CRG, instead move all of your controls inward, including grips, where you have 1/2 inch gap from the end of your grip to the end of your bar. Mount the mirrors there in the gap and replace the bar ends. Simple, cheap, and effective. I'll post pictures this afternoon when I get off if I need to.

Well, turns out I didnt have to cut the bars, nor did I have to move the controls inward (which was a good idea...)

I found this local guy who makes bar end weights that have a cut out that accommodate CRG bar end mirrors. Check out Rhinomoto.com. $59/set, but they have plastic pucks that are replaceable if you get in an accident, and 20% off for "blems" - mine were fine. He said that the powdercoating was slightly orange-peel like, but I couldnt see anything wrong, and just put that side facing down. Saved $12...

So, no cutting, no moving controls inward. Just new bar end weights :)

Nice! Got any pics? I just put my bar end mirrors on, mine had the same type of piece that goes into the end of the bar. But I'm using a Renthal, so it fit in there just fine.

If you want to see the bar ends, you can view them on the website at www.Rhinomoto.com

Im trying to put on bar end mirrors too. Mangled the left side using a 5.5 instead of a 6mm... duh! (but I SWEAR the 6 did not fit when I first tried). On the right, got it off; then thought I'd just cut the welds with my dremel. Took about 20 minutes, cut thru the top and bottom weld... but it still wont pull out! Is it superglued on the inside or something? Any advice or suggestions always welcome. Thanks.

Mine were actually already on,
but maybe that pic helps.

They are clamped around the bar end sliders, thay may or may not have come with yours.

Had to take em apart as the sliders rusted, and sprayed them in krylon-flat black, that match almost the grips.:)

Anyway, here front and rear:
