After I installed my GPS and went on a ride (yes I actually made it back home)I noticed that there is a 4 MPH difference between my GPS and my speedometer. The GPS shows 51 MPH and the speedometer showing 55 MPH. 4 MPH seems like a pretty big difference to me. Anyone else have this issue? Tires are Michelin and not over or undersized.

I just installed a HealTech SpeedoHealer. HealTech states that stock speedo's can be off by as much as 5.5%. Mine was.

Doesnt surprise me at all.

Remember this next time you get pulled over. I used it once as a defense in traffic court and it worked! I told them that I couldnt have been going as fast as he said, because my speedo was off by 4-5mph - ALL speedos are off by that much. Judge dismissed it, rather than give me a fine for going 5mph over the limit - which I would have argued was safe speed for the freeway (there is a difference between the Speed Limit and the Maximum Speed signs - you arent supposed to exceed a Maximum Speed sign, but you can legally go faster than a posted Speed Limit if traffic is moving faster than the posted limit - and we all know that no one actually drives 65mph on the freeway...)

Mine is off 10% from 20 to 50MPH and 8% after that (about 5mph at 60) I think they didn't recalibrate the ZR6 speedometer when they put it on the ninja 1000. 180 to 190 tire. In the age of computers I think this inaccuracy is appalling!!!

I just don't care if its off or not...... If I got caught speeding it would be more than 10%!

Another concur here..... As mentioned above, the resounding trend with among modern Jap bike owners is 6-8% optimism; though interestingly enough....my odometers have always been correct, as verified not only by GPS, but also roadside mile markers. Stated another way, an incorrect speedo does not necessarily mean one's bike is collecting (getting cheated out of) miles faster than actuality.

I read an article a while back that the industry errs optimistic, providing enough margin to compensate for variances in wheel / tire construction, such that the indicated speed is never slower than actual. It reported that German-made vehicles are the worst offenders, sometimes reaching 10-12%. Just what I read....not personally verified, don't shoot!

Hi and welcome to the forum! This doesn't seem relevant to the original conversation. Please create a new thread, and I'd be glad to answer there to the best of my knowledge.
