If all things go well I may be straddling a new Z this weekend. Ok...not new but new to me. Im currently looking at an 06' Plasma blue Z. Going to trade my sled for it(will miss her but I can't justify it sitting all year only to ride it 2 months with halfway decent snow) and hopefully I can get a straight trade out of the deal...or close to it. Other dealers I have talked to will give me around 4k for the sled on trade. They are asking 5500 for the Z so hoping to take it home for around 4500...hoping. They seem really eager to deal and earn my business so hopefully we can make a deal. Bike looks in great shape and only has 4800 miles on it. Probably going down there this weekend so they can see the sled in person and make me an offer.

This thread is pretty much worthless but I'm just getting excited and a little antsy to have a bike again after a long hiatus...and wanted to share with you all. IF I bring it home I will be sure to post pics as soon as I can.

Wish me luck!

Well mission failed. Went and looked at the bike this weekend but went back home with the sled still on the trailer. The dealership wouldnt budge a penny on the price of the bike. After all was said and done there was a 2k difference between my trade and the bike. I told them to cut that in half and I would write them a check for the the difference but they werent having any of it. I have never been to a dealer that wouldnt touch the asking price to try and gain someones business. Its beginning of spring and they have been selling bikes like crazy, I understand that, but when someone offers cash to cover the difference if they would have come down a bit in price could have sold a bike yesterday. For 5500 I can get a 2nd gen with a bit more miles. With any luck they will contact me later in the month if the bike sits for a while or by the end of the month when they are trying to push bikes out the door.

Weather is getting warm up here and Im still bikeless!:(

I completely understand its not the best time to trade a sled but 5500 for a bone stock Z, at least in this area, is a bit high in my opinion. I was fine with the trade in value they were giving me but the fact they wouldn't touch the price of the bike is what I am getting at here. I thought it was a bit ridiculous whether I was trading a sled or not.

Yeah, $5,500 is too much for a first gen compared to others available. In my opinion, the first and the newest generations are the best of them all, but a newer one will get you for over $7,000. In Minnesota, we've got plenty of first gens for $4,500 and less. We've also got plenty of sleds going for cheap because the snow is (thankfully) disappearing. Keep an eye out for a good deal on a bike, save some cash and buy one for under 4k. When the snow flies, sell the sled for what it's worth and don't get ripped off.

very good ideas. i say buy 2010 or 2011 and you'll really be happy. surely they have some incentives. when i bought mine last year 3.99 % for 2 years. hopr to have it paid for by then. if not the bank will be happy to finance what is left. got her down to 6700 already.:screwy::screwy::screwy:
