My insurance claim fell through for various reasons, so Im thinking about rebuilding it. As long as no motor/frame damage is done, is it do-able? I know I'll need plastics, tank, headlight, forks, at least 1 motor mount, and maybe some other stuff.

Is it best to do the 636 swap? I have found 2 sets for $350. That seems better than replacing with factory forks. What about wheels? If I need wheels whats the most economical solution?

Thanks,

Matt

Definitely doable. I would try ebay and craigslist first. I know that there are not many z1000 parts on there so you need to be a little patient. Now for the forks i would go for the 636 ones. I bet its easier to find them too. Good luck. I will keep my eyes open for parts and if I find anything I ll post it.

take your time man. I remember when I crashed my bike it took a long time to fix it. I was buying parts here and there so it wouldn't feel that expensive.

There are some used 636 forks on ebay for less than $100.
Good luck.

I cried for you dude. It is tough to see a Z in that condition, especially a 2nd gen. Makes me want to get full coverage insurance, but from who?

Actually it is not that bad. Plastics, tank, forks, and front fairing as you said. if you do it your self you could have her back for around $1k. if you dont find the headlight assembly for a good price get an aftermarket streetfighter one.

YEOUCH! Looks like a slightly bent subframe there too...

I will tell you what - the ONLY thing I enjoy about getting older is that full coverage insurance doesnt cost as much as it used to. So far, that is the ONLY upside of 40 that Ive been able to find...

Otherwise, the 20yo's just think Im a dirty old man!

underdog, I dont know man. Im pissed at progressive but they have better rates than most companies.

zannisvel, $1k is a lot better than I was thinking. I thought about $2K.
I have found several people selling 636 forks for $200-450. And theres a guy selling tank and plastic for for $600. Im having a hard time finding a headlight so I may do a streetfighter. My only problem is not having the money to buy the stuff before it sells. My dad is gonna help me buy parts and help me put it back together, but we dont make much money. Hopefully we can get the ball rolling pretty soon.

so-crates, the very end of the tail section is bent. Im hoping we can massage it back into place.

Thanks

Im thinking the lady screwed up.:dontknow: But my insurance is 10 dollars cheaper a month for the Z. Coming from a supermoto which was 25 a month. When she said 15 a month I ask "Thats for full coverage Right"? She said yes. I gave her the vin number and everything. She has it classified as a touring bike which probably makes the difference Im with Allstate..
