Hey all

Recently picked up a 2010 z1000 after being hit by a car about a year ago on my r6. I've been riding for about 18 years, racing motocross. I've always ridden a Yamaha, but their foray into the Supersport Touring bike is atrocious (see fz1) if it is even considered Supersport. I see it as more of a sport touring bike. I didn't want another wrist and shoulder killer with clip-ons and I didnt want a crusier type like a VFR. I have had friends and my brother who have owned Kawi dirtbikes and they always seem to hold up well so I decided that the 2010 Z was the bike for me.

Heres a picture of the old r6

i've had 2 bad wrecks. 1 at over 85 mph one at 70 neither of my bikes looked that bad. i walked away from both. fixed both bikes and rode the first for 8 more years and the 2nd for3 1/2 years. surely you were hurt. was there a driveway there or what? z is way different than you r6 gobs of instant throttle way fun. be careful and ride safe.:eek::eek:

Well I was riding safe, simply cruising down a 2 lane highway. Flat pavement, a woman was turning onto a dirt road from the highway, within 10 feet from me, she turned. As you can see, I moved as far to the grass as I could, and even contemplated going for a culvert.

Long story, I got pitched 85ish feet to asphalt...MX background helped me crash well. I balled up and landed with my entire right side. Walked away with a broken wrist. I got a gift, and I definitely have ridden more timid the last few times out. I'm going to need to get over that.

did your muzzy full system ever come in ???????
did you force that wheelie at 70 mph ? my 02 ZRX would not do that .

Christ - that looks like a bad one! Glad you came out of it with minor injuries, and welcome to the Kawi club! Once youve been bitten by the green, its hard to go to another maker... I used to own pretty much only Hondas....until I rode a Kawi. now, only Kawi will do it for me!

Enjoy it and be safe. The nervousness will dissapate the more you ride.

in jan 04 was riding and decided to do one more wheelie before i put her up. dropped grandson in driveway. went out in front of the house. rolled it up in first gear was up good when it hit power was nearly at rev limiter standing straight up foot wasn't near brake couldn't let go was holding on for dear life finally pushed the bike away from me and went sliding down thw road watching my 6 month old bike tunble down the road would have totaled it if it hadn't landed in in the muddy ditch. the bike didn't run that good the week before. it just surprised me. fixed it myself and road it another 25,000 miles. took out the front wheel and tire, fenderhandlebars, , levers, mirrors, exhaust, blinkers, taillight, footpegs, tweaked forks dented gas tank scraped fairing, tail and engine cases. nothing serious. i still hurt. my thought was you shouldn't have done this.new bike is easy to ride to rev limiter in first, can't shift to 2nd in the air yet. but has been really cold here. low 20's and teens sometimes. not as tough as i once was.
