Hey what's up guy's,

thought I would do a little intro. I had actually come across this site in the past and browsed it a few times, but I kind of came to the conclusion that it was mainly for the third gen Z from what I saw and not so much for the first gen so I didn't join. A few weeks ago I stumbed across it again brought up on another forum that I frequent, so I looked around a little more and saw a few first gen's this time throughout some of the threads which inspired me to join.:) There really aren't that many discussion forums for these bikes, so I'm definitely happy to be able to join another.

Anyway, I bought my '05 May of last year from the original owner and have been in love with it ever since. They are such neat and exciting bikes in their own way to say the least. My previous bike was a Suzuki DRZ400 that I bought new and converted to a supermoto. I loved that bike to pieces and it was a riot in the canyons, but alas I wanted something that I could also tour on a little bit as well and not always having the feeling like I just ran a marathon after taking a trip down the freeway. Not too mention, something that had more power and was also just ready for a change. After doing a lot of research and looking, the Z1K just pulled me in like no other bike did and knew that I had to have one. As I mentioned above, they are such neat and exciting bikes in their own way, there's just something about them. I did not want a 'crotch rocket' as I knew that I would not own it for long at all as I would grow tired quick of the riding postion.

A bit about my '05. When I got it, it was pretty much 100% stock aside from a rear fender elminator kit, HID headlight, smaller front turn sigs and the skull case covers. So far what I've done to it is add a pair of Yoshimura RS3 slip on's that are shortened, different mirrors, 636 front fender and blacked out the rad & side covers along with the rear sets. Because of the very univiting riding weather we've been having lately, I've been doing some winter maintenance and also bought a few new parts and accessories for it, so I'll probably post up some pictures once I'm done later on.

Here's a few pics taken over the past year,

Don't worry, the ugly black seat cowl is gone. One of the things I bought recently for it was a new matching oem titanium cowl.

thanks for the intro
in my case i did not have a sport bike. i sold my ZRX a few years ago and moved on the cruisers.[victory 8 ball]. well i got the bug to have another sport bike. i am to old to ride a crotch rocket. i always loved UJMs. but most of the newer naked bikes still have to much plastic covering for my taste. i was a at a famous motorcycle watering hole [ the rock store]and this guy had a 03 Z1000. i kept looking at it and i fell in love with the looks.
about 2 weeks later i was at a large motorcycle dealer with my friend . he was getting a ZX14. well right next to the sales desk is a MINT GREEN 2004 Z 1000. all stock with 9,000 so cal miles on it. i new i had to have this bike. after taking it home i i new i did the right thing. i prefer the 03-06 Z 1000 over the newer Z1000. it is just personal taste. i now have a full MUZZY, finder eliminator, and small turn signals. i love my bike so much i keep it spotless, i mean cleaner than new. one drop of chain lube on the rim and i clean it off.

Nice, yeah I used to in SoCal and ride the Santa Monica canyons religiously, man they are wonderful. Nothing like riding way up high and seeing the ocean off to the distance, then dropping down to ride the PCH for a while, grab a burger at Neptunes Net and afterwards going up Mulholland or Decker to catch Westlake Village BLVD and head back home.

You might recognize the last pic which is on the shoulder of Rambla Pacifico.

You are totally right, the Z1K has the looks of no other bike. To me, the first gen's look have such a modern look that they could almost pull off being a new bike. Like you, I like the styling of the first gen's better than the new third gen Z1.

LIVING IN SO CAL IT IS NOT HARD TO KEEP A BIKE CLEAN,
all the roads are paved,we get very little rain and i can ride 200 miles and maybe not
1 bug splatter on the bike. most rides i just do a wet cloth wipe down and put it away.
i am to fussy for my own good.:headshake::headshake:
my dream is to pick up a used SV 650 and just ride the do do out of it all over the west coast. i am sure i would spend all my time polishing it also:dontknow::screwy:
