I've had a couple of VFRs, a CBR 600, and few other misc bikes. By far, this is the best one to date!!! I love it!!! I can't wait to get past break-in period to let her rip. Low end to mid range power is awesome. I took the girl for a ride tonight too and couldn't even tell she was back there and she weighs about 120-125lbs. There's barely any pressure on me during breaking from the passenger. The seating position is perfect for me at 6 foot and 190lbs. I'm 99% satisfied with my purchase. I left the 1% for the seat because it's as hard as a rock, I'll be picking up a corbin if there is one or as soon as they make one. I'm going to bed with the biggest grin on my face tonight!! More pics to come....

Actually, I've not seen a black one in real life yet. Just photos. I guess dealers here in the midwest all ordered red first. Looked at an all black Z1000 though and it looked badass.

Nice bike in any color. Enjoy your new ride!

Buying Frenzy

Well new "old guy" here. It looks like a buying frenzy. I just picked up a new Red Ninja 1000 on the 14th and am breaking it in. I have had a lot of bikes since starting to ride in 1962. But this is the best I have ever rode. It seems to have it all power, handling, brakes, and comfort that works for an "old guy". I liked the Z1000 but I loved the 1000Ninja. Anyway I am new to this forum and just wanted to introduce myself:eek:ccasion:

Congrats on your purchase blackie65. I'm new the forum too, I just signed up on Friday.

I'm super happy with my purchase, best bike I've ever owned. This bike just knocks the socks off my old 2000 VFR in every category. I put about 300 miles on her this weekend. The torque below 6000 rpm is just awesome. I can't wait to get past the break-in period so I can feel the power beyond 6000 rpm. I got 42mpg today and I rode twisties for about 40 miles of that. The rest was a mix of highway and city roads. I could probably get 43 or 44 if I babied it. I really like the sound of the exhaust, it's deep and it's not loud. Until a company creats an exhaust the flows outward and more parallel to the ground I'll be keeping the stock system. I won't be riding with saddle-bags anytime soon though because of the exhaust design.

The seat has got-to-go though!! I found two places selling seats so far, trying to decide which one to go with. I was hoping "Sargent" would be making one or have a seat already in the works but nothing yet listed on their website. I really liked my sargent seat on my VFR.

Here's a pretty good review that someone wrote while touring on the Ninja 1000

Bike does not have a center stand. Which stands (front/rear) do I need to buy?

I bought a Pitbull brand rear stand after seeing one in a photo by another board member. It's super heavy duty and worth the $$ IMO. I'll probably get one of their front stands when it's time for any front end maintenance.

I got a set of cheap Bikemaster brand spools from Motorcycle Superstore and they're small enough they don't hit the left muffler, unlike most of the larger ones.

You're getting amazing mileage. I've checked 2 tanks so far and got 37 one time and 36 the next. I'm still in break-in mode too although I don't consider the RPM limits as exactly cast in stone. :D

I'm envious of you guys that have good weather. I'm managed to squeak out a little over 500 miles on mine in the month I've had it and that required riding in cold and high winds.

I cant seem to get greater than 35 mpg, and thats with going easy on the throttle and keeping it under 6000 rpms. Hopefully it will get better, only have 600 miles on it.
I wouldn't expect much better mileage after break-in. Engine is really spinning at 90 mph open road cruising speed. Thought about putting a 39T on the rear, but I'm getting used to the higher RPM on the highway. A taller 6th gear would have been nice, but I'm still happy with the bike....except for the seat and screen which will be taken care of soon :) Got a Baldwin custom on order and a buddy of mine in France is buying a puig dark smoke (5606f) for me off ebay france and shipping it to me. I couldn't find any in the US.
