Here’s a hypothetical question ;). A guy I ride with says that his 06 kawi 636 is faster than my 10 z1000. When looking at the numbers the z puts out almost twice the amount torque and more hp than the 636. But he says that since his bike is considered a supersport which revs higher that it is faster than the z which is considered a sportsbike. So any opinions would be appreciated. FYI a little background – I use to kill him in the corners with the buell until we reached a straightway where he would pull away.

I don't about the 2010 Z1000 but the 636 top end is 154 mph by the magazines. My 2007 Z1000 top out at 155mph not speedo speed but actual speed gps . So I would-en worry to much.

theres only one way to find out. bike to bike it's a no brainer, rider to rider would be the difference.I think an average rider on the z would be more than a handfull for an experienced rider on a 636. i would like to be a part of that test. since i drag race my z and have had mountain seat time, win or lose it would be a blast.

Idk about a 636 specifically, but I regularly ride with a buddy that has an '07 cbr 600rr and I walk away from him. He has laid his down, so maybe I'm just going harder than him, but in the corners we're about the same, he comes in faster and I can exit faster. But about 20 feet out of the corner it's not even close, I'm pulling away like he's standing still. From a stop, in a straight line, it's not close either (as long as I can keep the front tire down), till about 110-120 then he starts catching up. With a +3 rear sprocket though, my top speed is about 150, so if we were to rip it down a long straight, he'd eventually pass me.

a 600 super sport bike is very hard to launch off the line in a drag race. with average riders the Z1000 will win.
maybe from a roll on 3 rd gear race with the 636 at 10,000 rmp it might win.
i had a honda cbr 600 rr for a weekend one time. it gets old in town with traffic on a 600 with no torque. my neck killed me after being on that bike.

A buddy of mine has a 06-ish Daytona 675 with a two bros system.

I decided to have a little bit of fun with him on my bone stock '10 Z. We're going about 80 on the interstate. I'm in 6th gear. I roll on hard, and just completely walk away from him. I shut it down at about 120, cause I'm not stupid :p

I might have caught him off guard, so I slow down and do it twice more with about the same result. From the sound of things, he couldn't have been higher than 3rd/4th.

The conversation at the gas station was priceless.

Me: Hey, that was fun.

Him: Shut up

Me: I was in 6th that whole time

Him: I hate you.

I've got another buddy with a 08/09 GSXR 750. I'm wanting to do the same to him, but I might actually downshift to 5th. He's just usually got the wife on the back, and that's not playing fair.

Out accelerating 600's is just too easy. It takes the fun out of it.

Wait a minute......no, it's still fun as hell!

big difference between fast and quick. tehse bikes are quick from zero to one hundred. but with stock gearing the 2010 will run 150mph. not fast by todays standards. but with that being said these are one of the quickest to 100mph. and lots of fun for that. most stock 1000s will not run with them up to 100 after that they'll walk away, i;ve rode with cbrs and zx10s. the low end power of the z is awsome.

For once I agree with not a biker, super tough to launch, quarter milers are about the same, I seem to remember they did highish 10s and the z1000 2010 is around 10.55. Plus the Zed is cake to clutch, just tough to hold down.
