Anytime the motor is running, it makes a very high pitched noise (best heard with helmet ON to reduce exhaust noise). It is very similar to the sound that it makes when you first cycle the key to 'On', if not the same. It almost sounds like it is the fuel pump...?

Is this common, anybody else experienced this? It doesn't seem that it is an issue - I have not noticed any performace change, but this noise is annoying and I'd like to track down what it is! It does not change under load, just a constant high pitch.

Thoughts?

Thanks for the suggestion, though I hope that is not the case! Although I guess until the bike actually falters, stalls, bogs, etc. it is going to be tough to see if it is failing without yanking the thing...

I have an 08 and I get noise coming right from the gas cap, high pitch like you describe. I release cap and it just comes back in time. must be from hot engine making gas expand.
Now that you mention that, the EX500-D Ninja my fiance has does the same thing sometimes. :2cents:

Lol, like I said - the noise just doesn't go away!

I'm okay with the noise as long as it's nothing major, will just have to get used to it.

Thanks - I'll have to look into the gas cap next time I ride. We've been getting rain all week - hopefully this week is better.

I need to get some rain gear before I venture out. We do not normally get much precipitation in Calgary so it has never been a necessity.

I replaced my windscreen and come to think about it...I havent noticed nor heard a vibration noise since tightening the headlight bracket under the windscreen at the 60mph spot....Maybe the rubber mats just needed an extra full turn..

Good thinking - I'll snoop around this weekend and see if I can come up with anything. Though after a couple months now, I've grown accustomed to it...
