Yeah - the stock pipes. They slip on, and they are EPA approved...

Ive NEVER seen aftermarket exhausts that are EPA approved.

Akrapovic street legal slip ons. SLIP-ON STREET LEGAL EXHAUST SYSTEM for the KAWASAKI Z1000 / Z1000SX - Akrapovic

11 lbs weight savings, 7 hp improvement. even with the db killers in place. Deeper tone than stock but not any louder. Available with CF or titanium cans for the same price.

As best as I can tell they out perform the Yoshimura closed course slip ons in terms of power, and weight savings and are quieter to boot.

Of course, they are roughly double the cost of the Yosh slip ons and only provide about half the performance boost of the Akra closed course four into one system.

Before and after pics follow

Ray, I saw those were EU approved, but they are EPA also?, is that on the muffler label?. The cops out here are NAZIS with exhaust pipe issues and I need the real deal. Great looking. Yoshimura says they are only doing EPA mufflers for the "big bikes" like the ZX10R etc.

Dang dude - Im up in Northern Cali, and the cops here are cool. Most of the bike cops dont even give us any trouble - as long as you arent riding like a complete jackass, pretty much anything goes. Usually just pulled to the side and given a warning... And I have NEVER been hassled about my pipes either...

The M4 slip ons that I have dont say anything on them - no label on the muffler at all. Box said "closed course use only." Oh shwell!

I've never been bothered by the cops. I fact we have had a few riders go down in Malibu canyons and spent lots of time talking to the local police about our bikes and upgrades. They do seem to like to talk about the safety gear we wear while riding since we are at the scene of a spill. Now if your hauling butt down PCH or in the canyons and get caught... that might be a whole new story.

when summer kicks in and the tow-trucks show up, I want to be legal!. This paranoia comes from being pulled over and ticketed two dozen times plus during the 80's!, and that is before EPA and CARB laws "could" be enforced.

"paranoia" Is a good word for it. Being a local you probably have a much better chance of facing the FUZZ then I/we do just passing through. Now the TOW TRUCKS, there are the real Nazi's. They charged $320 for a 2 mile tow and a 4 hour stay at the lot! unfrickin' believeable. When we showed up with a truck to get it they/she thought we would be pissed so she got scared and called the police! Funny though, he shows up and we immediately start chatting and he looks at her like she was crazy... people are funny.

I am sure you have been to the rock store many times being a local. They sit in their flat beds on Mulholland drive and pull over, inspect and tow during the summer to scare us into behaving ourselves.......it works too!
