Clutch Lever Vibration...

3315 Views 9 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  jrick56
Hey guys, I just acquired an '03 Z and I have noticed a considerable vibration coming from the clutch lever, its most prominent at 5k rpm's and up...I can even hear it over my iPod. Rather annoying. Does anyone have and advice or "tricks" to get rid of this? Thanks guys and I look forward to frequenting this site. Thanks.

See how loose the lever sits. There may be room to put in a spacer if it's that bad.
this has been said before, people say early z 1000s do this my hearing is so bad i do not notice this on my 04.
There's always proper hearing protection, too. Cures those vibes!
There is maybe an 1/8th of inch gap. The lever is definitely not "snug." It has play in all directions...Would aftermarket levers cure this?
They might or might not; a dirt cheap spacer would.

Thats a $200 gamble you would be taking in hopes that it does the trick... A spacer would fix it for sure and cost you less than $1. So, really depends on if you just want to stop the lever vibration, or if you want to stop it AND improve the looks of the bike...

Could be simply worn - might want to price an OEM lever to see how much they are. If they are expensive, give the aftermarket ones a shot.
My 03 was like this from day 1. Check out riderforums.com (sorry to send traffic away) and do a search there. Someone found a thin plastic washer to fill the gap between the top and bottom of the lever to reduce(not eliminate) the vide. This is one of those often mentioned "vibes" that this bike is known for.

.

OK, this is probably a dumb question. Bear with me . . . I'm a newbie here and also to the Z's. What kind of spacer would I need to get and what's involved in inserting it?
Thanks,
Phil
proper ear protection and a muzzy should take care of any and all noises.:rolleyes::rolleyes:
