kawi builds good bikes i have no experience with the older one but generally listen for loud knocking noises from engine. smooth clutch engagement 5th gear slippage under load is a good way to check clutch. make sure all the gears sound good when driving in each one look for telltale signs of a fall scratches on bar ens pegs mirrors engine cases and such. look for items that sre not stock mirrors exhaust factory paint etc. not always a bad thing but ask where the originals are. i replaced the pipe bars and pegs on my 03 zrx because of a wreck. also plastic. there are a lot of good deals out there right now. if you don't know alot about bikes take a friend that does. many other things also. i'm sure someone will pick up what i've missed. enjoy.
