Hello, New to the form. My bf recently got into an accident where a car side swipped him and drove off. He wont let me see the bike, but he says he needs a new fuel tank and engine covers. I know he cant afford parts himself and id like to help out if i can. He owns a z1000 2005. So my question is where to find parts? and also can a 2010 tank fit a 2005?

don't know about the tank , but ebay might help some good sellers on thier.

what about insurance can he get the bike fixed that way

The covers you should be able to find online pretty easy...try some of the stores like BikeBandit....Parts Unlimited....Motorcycle Superstore....and look in the body parts section. The tank is a different story....Just about every Z1000 that has been down gets Tank Damage, so finding a used one in good shape will take some searching.....I know when I wrecked my 07 back in Aug. they charged my insurance nearly $800 for a new one...Good Luck

Unfortunately, the tank from a 2010 bike won't fit. You'll have to find a 1st gen. tank, so from the years 2003-2006. Then you can have it painted to match.


Here is a link to one on ebay. Only one on there at the moment. Looks to be in good shape! That little dent on the tank in the last picture is normal and supposed to be there.

Does he not have insurance? Did he report it to the police at least? Because that is a hit and run, and his insurance should cover it...

If not, then I would check eBay and any local motorcycle wrecking yards - those yards are usually linked up with all other yards in the state, and can check inventory at other yards, then ship to your local yard for pick up...
