Finally completing the system with the akra header, came today. Not a whole lot else to say about it just excited :) going to take the ecu off before I even put it on and send it to Ivan, have the pc5 in there now but want pair block offs figure get them at the same time as the tune why stage it anymore.

Also anyone got any polish recommendations? If I’m spending 700 on a header I want it to shine!

Not a polish, really....this stuff is insane. Its called "Naval Jelly" I know. Sounds like a bad name for a Porn Movie. Its pink, too..my local Auto Zone has it. Wal Mart might have it, too.

When you put it on discolored metal, the color disappears. our headers discolor when they get hot. Thats normal. This stuff brings them back to the new color. No scrubbing, nothing. Just apply. Ive been using it for years. The header ends up with this light, straw color, right as it leaves the engine.

If you like the look of the discoloration, on the welds, watch out. This stuff will make that disappear, too.

They hold up pretty well if you don't ride a lot in the wet. I had mine for over a year and it's only got some very minor pitting from stone chips that were thrown up by the front wheel.

Good to hear man, and this thing is moving from the daily rider part of my stable to the modded out sport bike side. Like when I first got it I rode in the rain often, but it’s too nice to trash with the mud and grime anyways, and my rec went out after a couple of wet ones, I got **** bikes for that now lol. Like my little vt500

yeah man, the bike has had akra dual slip ons since I got it without the baffles in. I put a pc5 in I’ll probably remove tomorrow (maybe for sale lol) which worked well enough for smoothing it out just got to be careful on the map you choose, the akra slip on map was double rich compared to every other slip on map and stock map. Made my bike run crazy rich, and slow, realized it comparing them and had been running the 2 brothers tune. Anyways, My ecu is on a ups truck on its way to Ivan in south carolina to get his famous tune. And he’s sending some pair valve block offs with it, I’m unsure if I’m going to do the full air box mod yet but block offs are a must

i love my 3rd gen sooo much I wouldn’t trade it for a new zx10r, and I’d trade my other 3 bikes for a new zx10r in a heartbeat

I just bought mine Thursday. So far I'm loving it. Just added a front and rear facing camera with 4"screen (mainly to see the boys behind me) already put 300 miles on it. It's been 13.5 years since I've had my gsxr600 I'm just glad to be riding again.

I just noticed on mine that the center exhaust hanger tab has snapped off at the welds. But interestingly when I look at Akra's website they don't even show this tab for this header in their stock photos. I feel that if you're using hangers for the silencers then this tab is not even necessary, so I'm not going to bother having it re-welded, but I do find it curious that some came with it and some didn't. Maybe mine was an earlier production run.

mine definitely doesn’t make use of the hanger
And I totally agree that thing is on there pretty solidly, most older bikes didn’t have a center hanger on their pipe systems either, but I’m mounted up ready to go! I’ve been following in your footsteps pulling crap off the bike, got some lightech levers on the cheap, clearance been sitting around for a while. Got the whole pair valve system out ready for block offs servos deleted and I’m not sure how necessary the metal lower fairing shield thing is...

Well I got to be honest. I'm used to the piggy game. I've ran for years ona gsxr600. This z1000 is too much fun not to do the same...... bought my plate from bikesvscops.com got the michigan "run-this" plate. Got the camera system just to see what's behind me. Most of the time I have the front camera off and just run the rear.. its a decent display with a wide angle right under my tail light.

If you have time, can you start a new post regarding this camera system? What it is and how you mounted it.

Back in 2011, we started buying the z 1000 header for our Ninja 1000's. Same bike, really, and the header worked perfectly if you did not have bags.

The original Akra header did not have the support bracket. That was added in 2013-2014 era. Some said that vibration was less if you had the support bracket. I'm not sure I believe that, but they added it. I thought it was to help support the stock mufflers. Some countries have strange exhaust rules. Many used the akra header with the stock mufflers, and they are heavy. (Like you guys didnt notice...sorry)

Arrow always had the support bracket on their header.

You should complain to Akra about this. They are a strange company. They actually care about things like this.

Meh to me it’s no big deal, I never thought twice. And the way the cans are mounted it hardly puts any weight or stress on the header flanges, only stiffens it if anything. I’m glad I’m in a us state that doesn’t care what you do with your bike as long as you have a mirror and a headlight and taillight. Don’t even need turn signals. As far as running goes, I’ll never admit to anything, and I like commuting around town on my bike still and I don’t want it to be hot but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do
