I just test rode a new 2010 z1000 after all that i read about the new z1000 I went to ride it with high exspections. As you know I own a 2007 z1000 mine has all the goodies full exhaust, power com, mod air box, secondaires gone. All I can say is if I got a new z1000 is, I would be going backwards. It has same vibs over 7,000, handles the same and don"t feel no lighter. And it was under powdered below 5,000. It cost 10,500.00 Another 2,000 for pipe and pc5 that"s 12,500.00 (FOR THE SAME BIKE) I have now. They all say it is different and I agree, but is it a better bike I say NO.

bought my 2010 z1000 yesterday 8900 out the door. found a ak pipe for 1100 and pcv for300 on line. will have to wait for a while. went from a zrx 1200r(my second one.) so far i'm happy. did ntoce vibe mostly in right handlebar(odd). haven't really got into it hard yet but feels really strong and handles better than rex.

Biased somewhat? Stock bike to stock bike, there's no comparison. Stacked up against a substantially modified bike and the differences are certainly less distinct.

Not sure how it felt underpowered down low, though. It's far from that.
my first rex was bought new in 03 (blue). put a dale walker stage 2 jet kit with pods micron slipon, 16tooth front sprocket. that bike ran well. dynoed at 107 on a conservative(operators' words) dyno. he said he ran about 20% lower than magazines. bike before mine was 07 zx10 with pclll micron slipon and k&n ran 140. my new z1000 feels quicker on the bottom so far haven't gone over 6 grand yet. feels much lighter and nimbler out of the box, haven't messed with suspension yet. only a few straight stretches around here. will know more after break in. rick :)

That's what I'm saying, it's not worth spending the money just to get the same bike different year, it's just my opinion and you know what they say about that. under powered 6th gear @ 3,000 rpm open throttle all the way and the bike wants to all most stall. My bike 6th gear 2,500 rpm open throttle all the way and it starts to pull hard. I guess i"m just spoiled

That's odd. Mine pulls without a problem from 3k in 6th? Only place I get it to feel like it might stall is near idle speeds. I wonder if something was up with the bike you rode.
are you whacking throttle open or rolling it. i can roll mine in 6th at 35mph and it feels strong. i see your point though. if i kept my rex i was going full exhaust, dale walker stage 2, new tires, chain and sprockets, valve adj.,then trade next year. made more sense to trade now. bike would not be worth much more to sell then, as it would have 30,000 miles either way. went with the new bike, figured couldn't lose any more money that way and bike has more easy upgrade potential. one thing i did notice is at 4,000 rpm,s i'm running 59 mph. very odd with 11.5 red line doesn't seem like the top end will be very good. rick

Good point. If I just throw it fully open it takes a second to really launch. I don't consider that bogging down, but my last bike was a 600 that, under the same conditions, would threaten to outright die.

please do not take this wrong, dyno reading will vary a lot. my 02 ZRX only had a muzzy slip. totally stock carbs it put out 117 RWHP. go figure. the A/F chart was right on stock with the slip. loved my REX but after getting my 04 ZED i never think about it.
my friend has a 2010 ZED. it has MUCH better roll on power than my 04 ZED. unless you do track days and are a very good rider the other up grades on the 2010 will not be a big deal.
i am not a fan of the looks of the 2010. a lot of riders could care less about how these bikes look . i do i like naked bikes, speed triple, etc. they started putting to much stuff on the new bike for my taste.
just like what others already said. you cant compare a stock bike to a modified one. its like comparing apples to oranges. now if you compare stock to stock then that will be a better comparison. if you put the same mods on the 2010 that you put on your 07, im sure it will a whole different bike entirely.
just got back from135 mile run. never went over 7 grand, then just once to 7 in 5th.:D went to my son's house and let him ride it. 1st and second gear wheelies at just over 7 just shifting. told him not to cod it yet. oh well. he says his new 09 zx 10r isn't anywhere near it at low rpms. fun factor is going up. rick :D

that's good, glad to see more people buying them this time.Maybe next year will be green?
I dont mean to hate but the brakes and the suspension is far superior to the old Zs.
Ive yet to mod my bike, but an Akro system and power commander arent far off,I really want to get it fully broken in first.
I can already tell my engine is starting to loosen up a bit due to better gas milage, and power feel.
Ive ridden many ZREX'S and love them but the weight of the Z makes it a monster!
Will post all info as upgrades go on.
