New to the forum and to Z1000's. Just picked up a new 2010 a week ago! Love it so far. I have a question though. The rear sets on the Z1000 just dont feel "right" to me. I have my 2003 ZX9R that I rode for years and was wondering if it was possible to swap out the rearsets? I could be way off base thinking its possible but I really love the size and feel of them over the Z1000's. Im not afraid to do some mods but I am limited on tools at the moments so they would have to be pretty basic. If anyone has any info on this or maybe a link to where I can find a compatibility list between the two bikes that would be awesome.

I don't know about compatibility. I'd be surprised if it was an easy fit. Maybe you can find another solution.

What is it about the old rearsets that you like? Is it the overall positioning - further back and higher? Is it the size/shape/material of the pegs? Is it the distance from pegs to levers?

You can get aftermarket pegs and that may help. Also, there are aftermarket rearsets available from Sato Racing and Rizoma, to name a few. They run $550-$600 and can't guarantee you'll love them in the same way, but I can guarantee that they fit!

Im 6'4" with feet to match and they seem to fit my feet better. The shift lever is a bit longer on the 9, and on the Z it seems im constantly feeling for the shifter if I move my feet. It could just be new bike blues but the 9's rearsets are silver and would look way better on the Z. Ive been looking at different sites for rearsets and the price range Ive found is what you quoted. Faced with the other upgrades I need to do (ohilns, full exhaust, Corbin for my big arse, windshield, integrator, shortys) the rearsets are of low concern, I just thought it would be nice to save some cash and know what Im getting, haha.
