Hello everyone, I'm known by all who know me as "Pep," although my mother had me christened Barry Peabody... I started with an original Z900 in 1978, and have since owned a multitude of bikes, ranging from a CBX1000 in 1979 through GSX-R1100/1000s and FZR 1000 EXUP/R1. I'm getting too old and stiff for full-on race reps nowadays, so I've gone for a Z1000 DAF - liked the look and feel of it, and more neutral (Arthritis friendly lol) but still quick enough to make the blood rush. I come originally from Coventry, but live on a remote Scottish croft with 10 acres, overlooking the Moray Firth. I'm a retired automotive development technician/engineer, having worked for Land Rover, Jaguar, Rover Group, and others, working on and testing experimental vehicles. I spend my time writing novels and poetry, (I have several books in paperback and kindle on Amazon) and building anything that interests me or piques my curiosity. In the past I've built trikes, bikes, cars and combinations, and worked on competition bikes for world superbike, many moons ago (the original ZXR 750s used by Performance Bike were prepped partly by yours truly). Bikes are in my blood, which is why, as I near my 60th year, I'm still attempting to grow old disgracefully, on a litre semi sports bike. I still have the passion for fast boats, and I still SCUBA dive. Yes, I'm a big kid, and I don't care!

Welcome to the forum, which gen Z did you get? Iím not familiar with the DAF unless it is a profane acronym, in which the D stands for Diabolical. Love my Z and am way behind you in road experience but not chronology. Also refuse to age in spirit, so youíre not alone in that regard. Welcome aboard, I suppose you have many interesting experiences and I hope you stick around to share a few.

Life is short.. better ride fast

Hey Pep, welcome to the forum, glad to have you here

You sound like my father-in-law. After I had purchased & built a CBR1000RR, my father-in-law wanted me to bring him to pick up his new bike, a 2017 Z900. The next day he turned 72. I have since purchased a 3rd Gen Z1000 b/c of the neutral riding position & it's still got a good bit of squirt. As of recently, my wife has started riding the Z900 b/c my father-in-law (now 73) just purchased a brand new Aprilia Tuono RR 1100cc. This past weekend we covered 95 miles in just over an hour and he was leading the entire time. Only hope I can move around as good as he does when get some years on me. I keep telling him, "you'll grow up one day" and without hesitation, his response is "why would I want to do that"?
