What do you mean? Like, actually do the work myself, or change the brand/manufacturer of the stock tire brand??

I change brands all the time. Heck, the stock rubber isnt all that good. I tend to like Metzelers and Pirellis.

I think he means actually getting a different set of tires and replacing the stock ones. Not doing the actual work on the bike. Most stock rubbers on any bike or car are rarely the best. Some of them are really good but you can always replace them with better ones for the right price.

How long would you normally expect the OE tires to last?

Depends how you ride. I'd say roughly 40k-50k miles before they get really thin. If you're heavy on the throttle and brakes then probably 30k miles.

On a motorcycle???? The stock tires on my 2006 Z only have about 2,600 miles on them and the rear is almost shot. I don't beat the crap out of it either.

He's rite Dude....You'll never get that many miles out of a set of bike tires....at best... I have gotten 12,000 on a front and 6 to 8000 on a rear...and that's being gentle.
Now-a-days it's more like 3 to 5000 on a good tire...just went to an Avon Storm 2 Ultra Tri-Compound and I'm sold on them...Great tires!

I was thinking the same thing - 40K on a tire?? Are his tires made out of titanium or something??

My new 2010 Z has 2700 miles on it, and Ive got about 300 more miles left in the rear tire. Sure, I could probably go another 1000 if I didnt mind having the center completely bald and useless - but I dont feel like crashing my new bike.

I dont do wheelies or burnouts - but I do like to launch it hard off the line, and Im sure that doesnt help matters much.

Sorry guys. I was basing them on how often I had to change them for my cars. I only share my cousin's bike whenever hes not using it so I never had to change them myself. Still have to purchase my own once I'm done with my loan payment.
