Achieving better sound?

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for a cost friendly way to get my '16 z1k screaming and not whispering like it is with the stock exhaust system. I removed the stock cans for fun the other day to see what it would sound like and it was still quiet!

Has anyone replaced that box with a simple y pipe? Did you need a re flash or power commander?

Has anyone installed a full system without a PC or reflash and not had any problems?

A Y pipe is more difficult than it should be, doesn't make any more power, and doesn't sound all that great. It's expensive but your best bet is a full exhaust (sounds amazing) and a tune. There is a night and day difference between stock and Ivan's ECU flash/tune and a full exhaust.

As for exhaust without tune, you can do it but it's not recommended. Bikes are already tuned lean from the factory to pass emissions testing to get into America. Allowing the engine to breathe better just makes that worse.

I have a Y-pipe on my 3rd gen, with dual akrapovic exhausts and it sounds awesome. A lot better than my friend's stock 4th gen. And a lot better then my other friend's 3rd gen with urban brawlers but with stock "box".

When funds permit I will get a power commander and add the auto tune, throw on some arrow headers, urban brawlers to finish it off. God dang expensive though

I've not read good Things about autotune for bikes. You are better off having it dyno tuned at a competent place.

Agreed. Skip the autotune. And a header with brawlers will be ridiculous. I pulled the muffler off my Akrapovic header and while it sounds amazing at idle it will make your ears bleed at WOT.
