3rd gen vs 4th gen

What are the major differences between the 2 bikes aside from ABS? Anyone can give real world comparisons of both? I've only tried the gen 4 but didn't really push it at all.

I believe the 4th gen has a slipper clutch as well. 3rd gen does not. other than that I'm not sure.

Gen 3 saddle is slightly softer, Gen 4 has brighter headlights, same pegs, about 4hp more on the new ones. I think the frame on the Gen3 is slightly wider where your knees hit. Obvious visual differences.

2016 is the only one with a slipper clutch.

I was really leaning towards the 3rd gen because i like how it looks, the 4th gen's headlights looked weird to me, but now it's starting to grow on me, esp the tank and tail. But performance wise and daily use, would you take a 400k ($1=45pesos) average price for 3rd gen, over a 460-500k 4th gen? Are there anybadvantages the 3rd gen has to offer over the 4th aside from softer seat?

Ok was able to sit on a z1000 gen 3. With less than 7k km, a power commander, akra pipe and decat. And it sounds awesome. A lot better sounding than my zx10r with SP engeering trioval pipe. The seat height is higher than 4th gen.

I think the forks are beefier on the gen 4 also....I remember seeing pic of the gen3 without its fork guards and thinking it looked a little weird....also, when I had my gen 4 dyno'd the dyno guy Chris said there were a lot more features and stuff that could be tweaked in the gen 4 ecu....that's just what he told me though...the gen 3 looks nice but the gen 4 looks better (but that's my own personal opinion) if the gen 4 never existed when I bought my zed id have happily had a gen 3....

You can add the slipper clutch to the older bikes, so I would not pay much of a premium for it. Total parts cost will be about 500.00, but probaby a 15 bike will be discounted way more than that?

In stock form, the second gen is a lot more powerful, down low. If you do an ivans reflash, he eliminates that advantage, and then some. The 3rd gen ends up being slightly more powerful. The 4th gen has a better, more sophisticated ecu, but after an ivans reflash, who cares? He tunes them both so well, it really is a who cares deal.

The newer bike does have the BPF forks. Dimensions are same as before. I dont believe either fork is set up very well, in stock form, so there could have been an advantage, but not really utilized.

For me, it would come down to looks. That second gen looks strange, in photos, but in real life I like it.

Ok so right now i'm deciding if i should go for a

3rd gen with:
Akrapovic dual exhaust
Y pipe
Ejk fuel controller
Pirelli tires
Many accessories
Aftermarket windshield
Less than 7000km

4th gen:
All stock except windshield
5000km

Both are at around the same price.

lol.. anyway to sum it up..which do you like when you sit.. my observations so far..
3rd gen for taller guys, 4th gen for smaller ones like me but can accommodate both height..
i have owned both so stock vs stock gen 4 spools faster, smoother when modded gen 3 is a monster however..
but doesnt mean gen 4 is a slouch.. gen 3 is prone to lift more than gen 4, as gen 4 accelerates better.., smaller cams gen 4 vs bigger gen 3
bigger tank on gen 4, i can reach 225/tank when touring, gen 3 just 160 lol- both modded..
better brakes, suspension improved on gen 4.. etc..

shorter geared on 1-5 for gen 4 but feels nice on 6th on the highway, less buzzy than gen 3 overall
but in real life for looks i preferred the gen 4 esp when both are stock...
remember these are my personal views.. others would differ...
take care..

oh ps, i would rather get the less modded one as modded ones are mostly ridden hard and how it should be compared to ones left stock... that is if you want
bike that had possibility of less stress, plus its fun to choose and start your mods..
